Graduate Students
The typical graduate student at Xiong Lab works on at least, but not limited, to one of the three main areas:
Synthetic Chemistry (Medicinal Chemistry)
Chemical Biology (Covalent Drug Discovery and Validation)
Cellular and Molecular Biology (HTS, Orthogonal Validation and Cellular Validation)
Cheminformatics
Graduate Student Expectations
No PhD or Master's student is expected to reach all the expectations since day 1. Instead, we seek for candidates that are willing to enjoy the learning process with resilience towards their graduate program. Some key expectations for every graduate student:
Develop key questions for their research projects. These key questions should be answered with reasonable experimental designs and proposals.
Plan and perform experiments accordingly, with reproducibility, a clear protocol (readable), and with a clear record keeping system (either Signals, ChemDraw Files, Excel Files or Word files).
Collaborate with other members/labs.
Pursue developing science communication skills.
Undergraduate Students
Undergraduate students are welcome to join and shadow graduate students and/or postdocs, but are also strongly encouraged to get hands-on training with both wet and dry lab. Some techniques and skills, but not limited, are:
Synthetic Chemistry (Setting up reactions, spectroscopical characterization & Flash Column Chromatography Purification).
Chemical-Biology (Gel Based ABPP & Biochemical Assays)
Cellular and Molecular Biology (Protein Purification)
Cheminformatics (Docking, Molecular Dynamics and Chemical Enumeration)
Postdocs
We are looking for biologists that are willing to learn more about chemical biology and biochemistry.
